There are afternoon teas, and then there’s The Speech House Afternoon Tea.
Served in the light-filled Orangery of our 17th-century hunting lodge, surrounded by the ancient trees of the Royal Forest of Dean, our Afternoon Tea has become something of a ritual for those who know about it. Locals have been coming for years. Visitors who stumble in, immediately wish they’d come sooner. People who’ve received a voucher as a gift, can’t quite believe their luck.
The spread is everything it should be: a generously laden tiered stand of seasonal homemade fancies, freshly baked warm sultana scones with clotted cream and jam, a carefully chosen selection of finger sandwiches and savouries. All presented on fine bone china and served with speciality teas or freshly brewed James Gourmet coffee.
For something that feels indulgent and celebratory, add a glass of champagne, or ask about our Silver Circle cocktails, made with spirits distilled just a few miles away in the Forest.
This is an afternoon worth making a plan for.
Served daily 3pm – 5pm. Sundays 4pm – 6pm.

Afternoon Tea at The Speech House starts from £25 per adult, the Signature Afternoon Tea for Two is £50.00. Our Children’s Afternoon Tea menu starts at £12.50.
Do I need to book Afternoon Tea at The Speech House?
Walk-ins are welcome in the Orangery, subject to availability. For groups of 6 or more, we recommend booking, and ask for a deposit of £5 per person at the time of booking.
Does The Speech House offer Afternoon Tea gift vouchers?
Yes, gift vouchers for Afternoon Tea are available to buy online and make a wonderful present.
Is there a vegan or gluten-free Afternoon Tea option?
Yes, preferably with at least 24 hours’ notice, but if you are just popping in on the offchance, our team will do what they can to accommodate.

Terms and Conditions
Unfortunately, we are unable to take bookings in the Orangery. Availability is on a first come, first served basis. Afternoon Tea for parties of 6 or more can be booked and will take place in The Carolean Room or Verderers restaurants if the Orangery is busy. A deposit of £5 per person will be requested at the time of booking for groups of 6 or more people. You might also wish to book an Outdoor Dining Den for your Afternoon Tea. A non refundable deposit of £10 per hour for Den Hire is required. Please contact Reception to book.
