All-Terrain Mobility Scooters

The Speech House offers for hire an all-terrain electric mobility scooter, called a Tramper, to help people with limited mobility access the outdoors and explore the Forest of Dean. It has a restricted speed of 4mph which is ideal to accompany walkers and children on bikes.

The Tramper can be hired by guests (bookable in advance) and is not restricted to Blue Badge holders. The scheme is open to anyone who has difficulty walking due to a temporary or permanent mobility impairment.

The Tramper Routes

From the hotel with the Tramper you can access the Cyril Hart Arboretum, Speech House Lake, the Geomap at New Fancy, and Mallard’s Pike Lake – once voted the best picnic spot in the South West. There are many safe forest tracks to explore, straight from the hotel.

How much does it cost?

Tramper hire works out at £2.50 per hour or £10 for half a day. To hire a Tramper, first time users will need to join Countryside Mobility costing £2.50 for a two-week taster or £10 for annual membership.

Please note that all new users will need to undertake ‘Tramper training’ before their first hire. This is designed to make sure you have the skills and confidence to safely operate a Tramper. You will be given a 5-10 minute training session on how to use the mobility scooter safely.

Dear Speech House Friends.

It is with great sadness that we have decided to close the hotel until further notice.

We cannot estimate when we are likely to reopen but will do so as soon as the Government indicates that it will be safe to do so.

If you have a reservation for accommodation or a function before May 31st we hope that we will be move your booking to a later date in the year.  We say May 31st but obviously that may be too optimistic.

You will be able to contact us by e mail ( ) if you do not receive an answer on the phone 01594 822607. We are planning to man the office during limited hours of the day.

We would like to thank all of you for your custom and support over the years and hope that it will not be too long before we can welcome you to The Speech House Hotel.

Best wishes and good luck in the months ahead.
